My Approach

My work draws from various themes in Indian tradition – jewelry, patterns, mythology, cuisine, and music. There's a rich set of inspiration, some ancient and others more modern, to use. My own personal experiences are of course another source of endless inspiration. Finally, I just love repurposing whatever materials I can find.

Design

I typically start with just a vague idea for what I want to do. I find that a few simple sketches is enough to get a sense for what a concept might entail. At this stage, it's just about the concept, not about its execution.

Execution

Once I feel I have a good handle on what I need to do to accomplish a particular project, I set out to actually execute it. This time, I generally pay more attention to details and precision.

Decoration

Each piece, whether it's jewelry or a doll, has many steps. Although I've done these steps individually many times, I'm always experimenting with new materials. Does the paint adhere properly? Should I use a different brand? It's a continuous learning process. Plus it's just really satisfying somehow to paint things!

Finishes

Before I can call a piece complete, there are often a myriad of small details. These require just as much thought and attention as the other elements. Most people feel a connection with a piece because of such details.
